366 and Beyond

In case you hadn’t noticed, I’ve fallen off of the picture-a-day wagon. Unfortunately, fun goals gave way to more important priorities…like dealing with several weeks of my daughter in a cast.

But that doesn’t mean I wasn’t taking pictures! I had the privilege of shooting author Carrie Nyman’s book signing for her book Why Aren’t You Sweet Like Me? If you haven’t already read this book you need to check it out!

Then there was a family reunion of sorts in Kansas to celebrate my niece’s 2nd birthday. She is even cuter than this adorable ruffle cake her mommy made for her. :)

Baby “season” is also well underway and the new born shoots are rolling in. I just love brand new tiny toes!

In the midst of the busy routine of life, I always try to remember to enjoy the little moments. Like taking the time to sit at my window and enjoy a breathtaking sunset on a spring evening.

Hope you are enjoying the warmer weather and little moments of delight in your life!  MM

366: Week 13

I feel like summer is here! There has never been a March in my memory where the trees have bloomed and I’ve gotten a tan!! But of course, I have to emotionally prepare myself for the possibility of snow. This weather is just such a tease. Here are a few things from this past week…

A colorful vase

I realized at the end of the day the only pictures I had taken that day were of my two year old – on the potty. This was because it was her first day of potty training and being a mom who loves photography I document everything in this poor child’s life. She will have no idea what to do with the thousands of pictures once she is grown and on her own! But because I’m also a mom who doesn’t want to be that mom who publicly posts said pictures (one day she will become consciously aware of what people are seeing of her on here) I opted for another stuffed animal. This one is from my babyhood. A quilted scottie that will pop at the seams if hugged too tightly. :)

I told you the weather has been nice. So nice we put on shorts and tried our hands at sidewalk chalk art!

And what gorgeous week is complete without a trip to the zoo?! The bears were being particularly frisky this day which made for some real entertainment!

The only reason I liked this wind catcher was because it reminded me of the hot air balloon festival in town every Labor Day weekend. I will never tire of seeing those balloons inflating and dozens dotting the sky!

Oh to be rock climbing! What fun! But my hike was quite enjoyable too.

And yes, I missed my fourth picture of the year. Ah well. There is always next week!

366: Week 12

Another week has come and gone. The days fly by oh so quickly.  This week’s pictures document a few things we’ve been up to.

This week my baby discovered she can make it into our bed all by herself by climbing up the footboard. She was quite proud of herself!

Pipe cleaners – a seemingly useless invention that has more applications than I can count – including keeping a two-year-old very entertained!

Speaking of being entertained, cooking in her new apron is quite the pastime too!

This week I also introduced my girl to her first museum experience. It went quite well but it will obviously be a couple of years before she gets much out of it. With my love for pillars and lights (usually occurring separately) I couldn’t resist snapping a shot of the combination of the two.

A bush outside our house is in full bloom with delicate pink flowers. In the morning, with the sun rising, it is nicely silhouetted against the red curtain of our window.

Clowns. You either love ‘em or hate ‘em.

366: Week 11

Oh my. I missed another day. How hard can one picture a day be? Well, let me tell you. Some days it just isn’t that easy. This week is a good demonstration of that as you will see…. :)

My baby doing yoga with me…this is her Downward Facing Dog pose.

My shower curtain…I warned you I was really reaching for pics this week!

One can’t have too many mugs. Apparently, one can’t have too many pictures of mugs either.

Yes, yes this is my laundry – just coming out of the dryer – at 11:45 PM.

Close encounters with the animal kingdom.

So what do I do at 11:55 PM when I realize I haven’t taken a picture yet that day and I’m so tired I just want to fall into bed? Slower the shutter way down and aim at the nearest light in the room!

366: Week 10

Every year on my birthday my parents would give me one of these birthday dolls. I think I have them through age 16. I’ve started re-gifting them to my daughter on her birthday. I chose this as my birthday picture this year because these dolls represent birthdays past and now birthdays to come.

There is a local motorcycle club that collects new stuffed animals for the Children’s Hospital in Denver. When a child has an appointment or procedure he or she is given one of these stuffed animals. I’ve personally observed the difference this little gift can make in the disposition of a small child in the midst of an uncomfortable moment.

This handsome boy melts my heart!

I just couldn’t decide between these two pictures! I’ve never had satin sheets before. I can only describe the experience as something akin to sleeping in butter – in a good way! :)

I just really like the color combination of these veggies.

The pen holder on my desk…because I must have just the right office supplies at my fingertips!

There is no better way to end the week than to sit down and relax while sipping some rich hot chocolate. It was like drinking a chocolate bar! So good! Ready for a new week!

366: Week 9

I know, I know…you thought I had missed a whole week. No, I’m just a little late getting this post up. Despite the crazy couple of weeks I’ve had I’ve managed to faithfully take a picture every day. I’m pretty proud of myself! :)

I just love this tree! I have some cool ideas for photos here this summer!

Had a great engagement session with this super fun couple! Really excited about photographing their wedding later this year!

Yes, this is a picture of my sink. But notice the best invention ever! This little addition will turn a regular faucet into a drinking fountain by just pinching the bottom of it closed! No more need for a glass by the sink.

An early birthday present. Have you noticed that I like the color red?

My daughter is always asking for strawberry and kiwi salad.

Glass of water.

Birthday presents set out the night before my birthday. In my husband’s defense we only had Christmas paper in the house!

366: Week 8

I fully intended on starting this week with a picture of our luscious dessert. We were having friends over for chocolate fondue and the table was filled with brightly colored fruit and the most aromatic chocolate! But in the midst of stirring the chocolate so it wouldn’t burn and the arrival of our guests, the couple of shots I took just didn’t measure up to the visions of chocolate-covered strawberries that were dancing in my head. So, instead, I took a picture…not of dessert…not of fun with friends…not even of our chocolate stained dishes after the fact…no, I took a picture of….

the rear-end of a Pound Puppy! He serves as a faithful bedroom doorstop. My husband is responsible for bringing him into the marriage. Funny the things that follow us from childhood into our adult lives. Why did I choose to take a picture of this dog you ask (besides the whole fondue flop)? Because I truly am a child of the ’80′s. Rainbow Bright, Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake, Cabbage Patch Kids, and yes, Pound Puppies all played a role in my formative years. I’m sure I’d be much the same person without all those things, but it is fun to remember the little bits of popular culture from those early years. Thus, the long story behind the first picture of the week. Moving on…

No, she isn’t injured! Growing up my dad played “doctor” with me by wrapping me in his ace bandages. This was her first ace bandage experience.

Only a small fraction of the books on my nightstand.

I was feeling a need for color. I have other ideas I want to try with sprinkles but they will involve having another person to help. So, when by myself, the next best thing was a marshmallow rolled in sprinkles!

Roses from my hubby…for no reason! The best flowers are the ones for no reason. :)

I love hot water. And this kettle has held up well for years!

The Komodo Dragon at the zoo posing for me while staying warm under his light.

366: Week 7

It is hard to believe that we are almost two months into the year! Time is flying! It is going to be summer before I know it!

It seems like the hubby and I always include at least one game of Farkle on date night.

A few fun little preparations for the holiday of love!

Can’t have too many hearts for Valentine’s Day!

This is called “It-was-late-and-I-was-tired-so-I-did-a-self-portrait-where-no-one-can-really-see-me”

This is not the first time I’ve played with this light-up highchair toy – and it brings me more fun and joy than it does my daughter I think!

Drying dishes. And to give credit where credit is due…the sweet hubby did these for me!

A Daddy-Daughter date at the zoo – a bit chilly but fun!

366: Week 6

Well, it happened. I missed a day. Although I was hoping for a perfect 366 days of pictures…this is the reality of a busy life. But I’m still striving not to miss another day! :)

A handmade lace doily given to me as a wedding gift.

My daughter’s favorite ball.

My sweet little baby!

The last few drops of my apple cider.

A banana a day keeps the doctor away…or something like that.

A snowy, lone tree

On a whim, I decided to get my husband behind the camera to try to capture a few pictures of my daughter and me…

Have a very happy Valentine’s Day!

366: Week 5

Another week has come and gone. February is here…although up until this weekend it has felt more like April! But I don’t mind.  It means more time at the park for us! :) So without further delay, here are a few more pictures…

My grandmother’s harp.  I will learn to play it one day.  I will.

You need to understand how we eat cupcakes. One of us doesn’t like frosting. One does. Thus, we leave them unfrosted until right before devouring them. That way each person can control the frosting to taste.

There are two pictures for this day because I couldn’t decide between my sleeping beauty and my husband’s favorite pass-time…

World of Warcraft

Knives

Hair bands

Finally getting some of that snow.

I can’t resist loving little handprints in water on the window!
